Toilet Trailer Site Setup: 5 Keys That Prevent Problems

Most toilet trailer issues aren’t “trailer problems.” They’re setup problems.

If you want a smooth season (and fewer guest complaints), confirm access, placement, and utilities before you commit.

This guide is for private operators across BC and Western Canada.

1) Access: can the trailer actually get there?

Before you buy, confirm:

• Delivery route width and turning space
• Gate widths and height restrictions
• Soft ground, steep grades, or tight corners
• A staging area for delivery day

Tip: A single photo/video of the access route saves a lot of back-and-forth.

2) Placement: choose a spot that reduces complaints

A good placement location has:

• A stable, level base area
• Clear approach routes (no bottlenecks)
• Lighting and sightlines (comfort + misuse reduction)
• Enough space for lineups on peak days

Avoid:

• Low spots that pool water
• Hidden corners with poor visibility
• Areas where snow/ice builds up at the entry

3) Guest flow: plan for peak weekends

Ask:

• Where do guests naturally walk from parking, campsites, or attractions?
• Where will lineups form on long weekends?

Simple upgrades that help:

• Clear wayfinding signage
• Lighting near the approach
• A defined waiting area (so it doesn’t block paths)

4) Utilities: don’t guess—confirm what you have

Even if you’re not an expert, you can collect the right info.

Send:

• Power availability (yes/no/not sure)
• Water availability (yes/no/not sure)
• Sewer connection availability (yes/no/not sure)

And include:

• Photos of the nearest utility points (if visible)
• Notes on distance from the placement area

5) Winter and shoulder-season considerations

If you operate in spring/fall (or year-round):

• Confirm snow-clearing responsibility
• Plan ice management near the entry
• Keep service access open
